Edit Billing/Shipping Countries
- Scroll down the Store Setup page to "Home Country & Valid
Billing/Shipping Countries". Read the blurb above the BIG
table. When finished, under that table, click the "Edit Valid Billing/Shipping Countries" link.
- Look above the Select menu for the line "Home Country (shipping origin)
is...". This should default to US, but whatever it is, if it is not the country
where you are located, choose your country from the menu. Then go to the bottom
and click the Update Countries button. Otherwise, go to next step.
- There are 10 columns in the big table. From left to right they are:
- Country: The name of the country.
- Code: The 2 letter country code.
- Activate: If the box is checked, orders are allowed from this country.
- States Menu: If the box is checked, the states will show in a menu at checkout, and be required.
- Require Zip: If the box is checked, Zip/Postal code is required for billing/shipping.
- UPS: UPS ships to this country.
- Shipping Surcharge: Additional handling charge for shipments to this country.
- Currency: Name of the country's currency.
- Code: 3 letter code of the country's currency.
- Delete: If you check the box and click the Update Countries button below the
table, the checked countries and all states in those countries will be deleted.
See the last step on this page.
The main thing you will be interested in at this point is the "Activate" column.
You may also change any of these parameters, and add/edit/delete that country's states
by clicking the name of the country, althouth you probably won't need to do anything now. But you
may want to revisit this section later.
- OK, once your Home Country is set, there are two automated options for selecting
countries. "Activate all Countries where UPS ships" (all of these countries should already be
selected unless UPS has changed the countries they ship to since this documentation was last updated) and
"De-Activate all Countries except Home Country". If you will only
be shipping to a few countries, such as US and Canada, or only to your Home
country, go to the bottom and check the "De-Activate all Countries except Home
Country box then click Update Countries". If you will be shipping to most of the
countries checked (or more than half), go to the next step.
- Now, we have either one country checked or all the countries where UPS
ships checked. If all UPS countries are checked, uncheck the ones you don't want to ship
to. Otherwise, check the countries in addition to your home country where we
will allow purchasing from/shipping to and click Update Countries. You may also
change the country code here. We've run into some confusion for example on
whether the country code for United Kingodm is UK or GB. We have it as GB since
that's what UPS uses. You may also check the box in the Show States column for
countries where you wish your customers to enter/choose their state, or uncheck
any where you don't wish this. We believe the states we have listed
are pretty accurate, but you may check by clicking any country and viewing the
States list.
Note on States Menu column! If your home country is US or
Canada, and you are charging sales tax, leave this box checked!
- You may also now delete any countries that you don't have checked by
checking those countries in the Delete column and clicking Update Countries.
This may speed up your queries a bit, but it's going to cause you alot of work
if you want to add them back in later. Just be careful.
- When finished, click Store Setup in the black menu.
Cool! You're done with countries for now. If you deceide to use US Postal
for shipping, we will likely have to revisit this section.
