Gift Certificates

Gift certificates must be purchased a single transaction. In the future we hope to create a method for allowing gift certificates to be purchased during a standard order.

There are 2 types of Gift Certificates.

Electronic - the recipient is e-mailed with their certificate and may redeem it online.
Traditional - the recipient is sent a paper certificate. If you do mail order in addition to your online sales, you may send a catalog and have the recipient mail their order in along with their gift certificate for redemption. Otherwise, it would only be feasible to purchase this type of certificate for some close enough to your store to physically visit.

Gift certificates must be placed in Category 1000 with the following Product IDs. Electronic Gift Certificate = "EGC". Traditional Gift Certificate = "TGC".

There are 3 settings in Application.cfm which will allow you to set the amounts that a customer may choose for their gift certificates.

With the setting as it is, the Select menu for the gift amount will start at $25.00 (attributes.giftfrom), go to $500.00 (attributes.giftto) and step every $25.00 (attribites.giftstep). Pull down the menu below for an example.

If you are not going to be offering gift certificates at this time, we recommend placing them into a hidden category with an ID of 7000 or greater.

In case you have deleted the gift certificates from the database, here are the default descriptions, (IN BLUE).

Electronic Long Description

What a great gift! Just purchase the electronic certificate and at checkout you will be prompted for the recipient's name and e-mail address. Upon approval of your payment, they will be e-mailed with instructions and a special greeting from you along with their password. They will then purchase and checkout normally, either paying the difference or reserving any remaining balance for future purchases.

Note: E-Gift Certifcate purchases must be made as a separate transaction so you will not be charged for shipping. If there are items already in your cart, they will be removed upon entering an E-Gift Certificate.
